A bit late to the party as they say. I spent most of my childhood holidays on the canals, both on cruisers with outboards, and a narrowboat with a BMC 1500 diesel. It would be my guess that what you got wrapped round your prop at lock 1 was maybe some bitumous or tar sheeting of some kind, and the prop partially chopped it up leaving bits of tar in the water. Just a tip for the future, a few drops of washing up liquid into the water will disperse stuff like that in a jiffy. I had to do that after spilling a cup full of fuel oil into the water when refuelling a ship and the bunker overflowed. You make such a lovely couple 🥰🥰🥰

Hello from Australia where I’ve never seen a canal or a narrow boat. I’m a recent subscriber and I’ve only been watching you for a few weeks. I hope a canal boat holiday is in my future even more so after watching this episode, my favourite yet even though I’m dreadful with heights as well Emily.

That stove is the business. I love these boats. I haven't seen this type of boat here in the US. I wonder if we have them.

I would seriously advise getting better clued up on the workings of your boat and definitely get yourselves into a dry dock as it seems very much to me your prop glands are failing. If they go completely you could find yourselves submerged.

Now on to the big one , rd . Ben as a string player you have no doubt adjusted the strings / cables many a time . Now is the time to adjust the strings cables on rd . There are two meager stings / cables coming from the control box down to the engine . One is for forward/reverse , the other goes to the pump . Adjust the fuel pump string/cable . Adjust that one to give you 100ish more rpms. If you show me the adjuster , I will work with you to get it adjusted , if you like . Just for fun look up the yamaha rd 400 daytona special , that is the bike of my dreams .

We bought our van from Rupert at Basevan in May 2023 and spent around 4-6 weeks converting her before heading out to Shetland, Orkney, NC500 and Outer Hebrides for 5 months. We kept the original insulation and we've never had an issue, couldn't recommend getting an ex-ambulance enough! Oh, and we called our van "Nelly the Nee-Naw"

With the number of canal boats increasing everyday and parking ( Moorings) getting harder to find , better you go camping as it is becoming far less Aggravating with the new boat owners who have rules of their own.

Like everyone else I was so thrilled to see you both and Alan on a new vlog. Benny such respect as you never gave up on getting Rambler moving. I was exhausted just watching you so you must have been even more so. Take care of each other and see you again whenever you can get another vlog together. I think the boat/van combo confused me at first, because i assumed the distances being traveled were greater. Being from the USA, i sometimes forget that things aren't as spread out in the UK as they are here.
